           We’re thrilled to announce that OMG! Decadent Donuts has been named a finalist in the highly coveted Telstra Best of Business Awards, standing out among an impressive 22,000 entries from across Australia!

           Since our humble beginnings at Brisbane’s Milton Farmers Markets, we’ve worked tirelessly to develop a product that is more than just delicious. Our donuts, free from gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, and sulphites, have become a symbol of indulgence and inclusivity without compromise, offering a treat that caters to a wide range of dietary needs be they from food allergies and intolerances or due to culture or beliefs, without sacrificing taste or texture.

            from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, yeast, nuts and sulphites isn’t enough; as if dusting them in all-natural sugars made from real fruit, vegetables and spices isn’t enough – now we’re gone and added more decadent deliciousness by offering chocolate drizzles to add a further taste sensation to OMG! Decadent Donuts.

           As with everything OMG! Decadent Donuts, our drizzles are vegan and free from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, yeast, nuts and sulphites with no GMOs are 100% natural with nothing artificial.

           If the goal is to make the world a sweeter place, one donut at a time, OMG! Donuts is doing well. On their first day of trade, they went through 2kg of donut mix, which equates to roughly 64 donuts at that farmers’ market in suburban Brisbane. In 2023 they went through 86 tonnes of donut mix, which equates to over 2.7 million donuts and in 2024 the forecast is 102 tonnes which is over 3.3 million donuts.

           People often ask us how our donuts, which are free from so many allergens, taste so bloody good? Well, if we told you we’d have to kill you but there is a team of food scientists out there who know all our tasty little secrets! To debunk a bit of the mystery, we’ve chatted to Food Scientist Trevor Gibbs from Brisbane based food manufacturing business Janbak about the creation of OMG Decadent Donuts.
          &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           Sounds kind of nerdy but it’s really very cool what these smart people do to ensure manufactured food is up to scratch. Not to discourage invention test master chefs out there, in fact Trevor himself says “passion for working with food is where it all begins”, but there is a lot involved in the development of food products including food chemistry, food microbiology, food engineering, quality assurance, innovation, nutrition and regulation.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In short food scientists develop, tweak and batch test the hell out of products to make sure they taste good and are in tippy top shape, performing as they should in a variety of conditions. For instance, OMG Decadent Donuts need to withstand a variety of environmental elements being sold in markets across Australia as well as inside shopping centres and delivered to your door. (You’re welcome) In developing the product, Trevor had to consider this and in doing so needed to make a few tweaks to the product to ensure OMG donuts are more robust than your standard donut! (How cool are our donuts).
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It took months to get OMG donuts just right with business founders, David and Andrew working closely with Trevor to perfect the balance of performance, taste and quality. Ironically Trevor is from a flour milling background, but these days often finds himself working with alternate grains and starches as consumer demand for gluten free, vegan products rises (mind the pun).
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Trevor comments: “I have done a lot of the product development at Janbak, applying my years of experience from the flour milling industry. The gluten free range of foods now available to consumers has improved dramatically over the years. The key to getting it right when it comes to gluten free, is understanding how to work with different starches and gluten free products to get the best results. It’s really about applying the combinations of ingredients to get the balance right.”
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Surely one of the best parts of a food scientists’ job is the taste testing with each product requiring a batch test followed by a taste test. How good! Trevor concurs saying “this is certainly a highlight of the job.” Our donuts are put through the ringer with Janbak’s Production Team sending a 0.5kg bake test each time they are produced to ensure it performs! It is high pressure being a gluten free, vegan donut these days! If the quality is low then Trevor is in luck, ordering another batch to bake test again (we are onto you Trevor.)
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           But in all seriousness, the contamination process is taken very seriously throughout the manufacturing process, Trevor’s team controls the scheduling of the product with each batch swabbed to ensure there is no contamination and that the donuts are free from gluten, egg, nuts, dairy, sulphites, and yeast, as well as ticking the Halal and Kosher boxes. Yikes sounds exhausting. At least us simples just get to enjoy the utterly light and fluffy finished donut our only conundrum, deciding which dusting of sugar to choose.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Recently OMG! Decadent Donuts entered a national Cinnamon Donut competition with 2756* entries from donut makers across the land. The results proved that those with the misinformed belief that a vegan and gluten-free donut can’t taste as great as a ‘regular’ donut are well… wrong!

           *Might be a slight (major) exaggeration with the 2756 entries – but it was a LOT!!

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           The competition was held during the massive 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="https://www.baa.asn.au/" target="_blank"&gt;&#xD;
      
           Baking Association of Australia
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            trade show and conference in Sydney with bakers from all over Australia entering to win everything from Best Pies to Best Breads, Best Croissants and of course Best Donuts.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The highly respected judges did blind tests of all entries which means that they had no idea of the ingredient list or anything about the donuts at all. The judging was all based on taste and texture such as how light and fluffy they were, they had no idea that our OMG! Decadent Donuts were vegan or free from gluten, dairy, egg, yeast, wheat, nuts and sulphites.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           We’ve proven that a donut can be inclusive and enjoyed by everyone – those that have a dietary requirement and those that don’t. They have a brilliant taste and texture and are free from most allergens and without any nasty artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

           When we first envisaged OMG! Decadent Donuts we thought of parties – where the same treat could be enjoyed by many – regardless of food allergies, intolerances, cultural beliefs or preferences.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Australia and New Zealand have among the highest prevalence of allergies in the developed world.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           While there are now many food companies which address certain allergies or intolerances, many are not certified, accredited or endorsed. OMG! has invested time and money into ensuring it is one of the highest certified companies in the country, giving reassurance and peach of mind to our customers and able to better cater to as many people as possible suffering from the crippling effects of food allergies and intolerances.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           But our focus does not stop there, because simultaneously OMG! is also addressing cultural and religious considerations, by having certifications from Vegan Australia, Kosher Australia and the Halal Authority of Australia.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           OMG!’s mission has always been to create a genuinely inclusive product, a product where people without food allergies or intolerances, and who aren’t vegans, love our donuts just as much as people with food allergies or intolerances and are vegan. To have a product that almost everyone can enjoy has always been our goal.
          &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           The team at OMG! would like to see their achievements usher in a trend for more food products to be highly certified and equally inclusive, but for the moment our accreditations in our manufacture and preparation are unmatched in the food service industry.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

      <description>Sugar – it’s such a naughty word.  We’ve never professed that our donuts are a health food – they’re a delicious occasional treat. We have worked really hard to ensure that we don’t have any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives in our donuts or in the sugars that dust them.  Nothing nasty at all in these babies.</description>

           And of course, we love that our donuts are inclusive and able to be enjoyed by just about anyone including those who have dietary restrictions.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           We let nature be our guide in making these delicious vegan and gluten free treats. The sugars that we dust our donuts with are made from all natural fruits, vegetables and spices then blended with Bundaberg sugar. We source all the fruits and vege from Australian growers.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The idea for the funky flavour combos came about when OMG Director David Moore was eating a regular hot cinnamon donut. As a former chef, David has a creative mind and he wondered to himself what a donut would taste like if it was dusted in other flavours. He borrowed a friend’s dehydrator and started playing. Blending dehydrated raspberries with cacao, chilli and sea salt – voila – Berry Sinful was born. Then he put together ginger with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg and black pepper – and there was Spicy Ranga. Even David was surprised at how great the flavour dubbed Beet-a-licious turned out to be – it’s a whacky combination of beetroot, coconut milk, cinnamon and ginger – it really has to be tried to be believed.
          &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Of course, if you’re trying to reduce your sugar intake – you can always ask for a just a light dusting, or even for a ‘rudie nudie’ – just the warm soft fluffy donut completely in the nud. Check out the range of flavours available
